FlashSystem 5600, 7600, and 9600: Which Current IBM Array Fits?

Updated August 13, 2026

IBM's current FlashSystem decision starts with three main performance tiers: 5600, 7600, and 9600. All three belong in the same family, but the right model depends on workload density, host count, capacity growth, replication, and refresh path.

Current model fit

ModelBest Starting QuestionTypical Fit
FlashSystem 5600Do we need compact low-latency storage?Smaller mixed workloads, compact OLTP, branch, edge, and IBM i environments.
FlashSystem 7600Have we outgrown entry storage?Larger mixed workloads, virtualized estates, 7300-class refreshes, and broader host attachment.
FlashSystem 9600Are we consolidating critical workloads at scale?Flagship workloads, high bandwidth, 9500-class refreshes, and large protected-capacity designs.

Do not pick the model only by effective capacity. Confirm latency target, host paths, snapshots, replication, Cyber Vault, support term, and future expansion.
