FlashSystem MTM and Capacity Matcher

Decode the machine-type signal, separate raw from usable and protected capacity, and identify the FlashSystem research decision that should come before a quote.

Start with the machine type and capacity basis

An exact MTM can identify a model family. It still cannot tell you whether a quote has enough usable, protected, replicated, and growth capacity.

How the result is produced: Exact machine types receive the strongest model fit. Capacity ambiguity, replication, and Storwize migration add weight to sizing or migration work before a model recommendation.
Limit: This matcher does not calculate effective capacity from vendor data-reduction claims. Final sizing requires workload telemetry, snapshot policy, replication design, growth, and the quoted drive configuration.

Why the MTM matters

Buyers tend to arrive knowing an exact machine type rather than a product family. That is useful evidence. Buyers often know a label before they know the product family, and the model identification problem comes before the sizing problem.

Model identification is exact only when the full machine type and current IBM documentation agree.
