What drives can go in an IBM FlashSystem array? Most current and recent models support two broad drive families: IBM's own FlashCore Modules, and industry-standard NVMe SSDs. Which one is the right call depends on whether hardware-accelerated compression, ransomware-detection telemetry, and IBM's density economics matter enough to justify FCM over commodity NVMe media.

FlashCore Module itself spans five hardware generations, FCM through FCM5, and not every drive generation fits every FlashSystem model. Confirm the generation before assuming any FCM drive is interchangeable.
