FlashCore Module

FCM

IBM FlashSystem flash media technology designed for density, data reduction, telemetry, and cyber resilience features, spanning five hardware generations (FCM through FCM5).

A FlashCore Module is IBM's purpose-built flash media used in modern FlashSystem configurations. Buyers evaluate FCM for capacity density, data reduction, telemetry, performance behavior, and ransomware detection context.

IBM has shipped five FCM generations. FCM through FCM4 share a U.2 NVMe form factor and a capacity ladder from 4.8 TB to 38.4 TB, spread across FlashSystem models from the original 9100 family through the 9500/7300/5300/5200 line. FCM5 broke that pattern with the EDSFF form factor, exclusive to the current 5600/7600/9600 line and not backward compatible with any older FlashSystem enclosure.
